This article explores possibilities of employing algorithmic design techniques in the design of high-rise building located in a city downtown. The complexity of such designs creates a perfect test field for verification of usefulness of algorithmic design in architecture. Examples of algorithmic design procedures are being presented both for the initial stage of the design when an extensive analysis is being performed as well as for the conceptual design stage when it is utilized for finding design solutions. Creation of algorithmic procedure controlling the design allows to streamline and extend solution finding design process. Automation of the process of solution searching requires optimization to be employed. Presented algorithmic design procedures are being illustrated with the design projects created by ASK WAPW master students.
